Deck Building, Dock & Stair Repair in Tiny Township, ON

We can build a deck, or replace rotted boards, and loose railings. This service is for cottage and home owners across Tiny whose deck has reached the age where its time for a repair or a new deck entirely.

What Repair Covers

If not a complete rebuild, we walk the deck with and mark every soft board, popped screw, and loose post. The old boards come out and the new ones go in.

Why Decks Here Need a Spring Walk

A deck that holds a lot of snow all winter and then thaws in April gets wet and stays wet, and the boards closest to the house, where the snow slides off the roof, tend to go first. Beach stairs built on sand move a little every year as the sand moves under them. None of that is dramatic in any one season, and all of it is why the spring check on a ten-year-old deck finds something.

Permits, the Shoreline, and What We Will Not Build

The Township's rule is simple: a deck more than 0.6 metres (two feet) above grade, or attached to the house, needs a building permit, and small-project permits start at $275. Repairing an existing deck does not. Checking its current status with the Township is recommended before you plan anything on the beach side of the lot.

Deck, Dock & Stair Repair FAQs

  • Can you replace just the bad boards, or does it all have to go?

If the joists and beams are sound, we replace the bad boards and leave the rest. We probe the frame first; if more than a third of the boards are soft, or the ledger at the house is rotted, we tell you the frame is the problem and price a rebuild instead, which may need a permit.

  • Does a repaired deck need a permit?

No. Repair and board replacement on an existing deck does not. Enlarging it, raising it above 0.6 metres, or attaching a new deck to the house does, and the Township permit starts at $275.

  • Will you put our dock in and take it out?

We repair docks and we help with in and out for smaller sectional docks as part of an opening or closing. Larger docks and lifts go to a marine service; one is based in Tiny and we can pass on the name.

  • How soon after staining can we use the deck?

Foot traffic the next day is no issue, depending on humidity. We stain when the wood is dry and the forecast is clear for 48 hours so it depends on the weather.
